PSYCHO-ONCOLOGY IN BASEL

Psycho-oncology counseling and breathing therapy for people with cancer and their acquaintances

What is psycho-oncology and for who is this?

Cancer is often a catalyst for change. It does not only encompass the body, but may also greatly influence psychologic and social aspects of life. A cancer diagnosis often arouses intensive feelings and emotions, such as fear, anxiety and desperation. It can also bring existential questions and issues to the surface. From one moment to the next, the relationship to one’s own body can change, as the disease comes suddenly and without any warning. In addition, interpersonal relationships within the family and beyond are often no longer the same as compared to the times before the diagnosis.

A psycho-oncologic counseling with a focus on the body may support you through these changes and challenges and may provide support for various discomforts and for dealing with the disease. Also family members or other close acquaintances may find support for dealing with difficult situations and the impact of the disease of a close person.

When may psycho-oncology counseling be helpful to me?

Your quality of life and well-being are central elements in psycho-oncology counseling, as these are the elements we would like to enhance and expand. Psycho-oncology can provide support in the following areas:

-Improving self-support

-Dealing with fears, anxiety, inner arousal and tensions

-Dealing with fear of recurrence

-Dealing with difficult feelings like anger, desperation, mourning

-Establishing a new body relationship

-Dealing with the cancer-related treatments and side effects, incl. fatigue

-Dealing with changes in the social environment

-Dealing with a cancer diagnosis of a close person

Counseling can be provided during treatment as well as after treatment completion.
